A Living Voice for Peace: Koko Tanimoto Kondo
Busboys and Poets · Mount Vernon Triangle
Tuesday, October 20, 2026 · 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Join us Tuesday, October 20, at Busboys and Poets for an opportunity to learn from Koko Tanimoto Kondo, a survivor of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and a lifelong advocate for peace, reconciliation, and nuclear disarmament. Through her powerful firsthand testimony, Ms. Kondo shares the human cost of war and reminds us of our shared responsibility to build a more peaceful world. As the final surviving individual featured in John Hersey’s landmark book Hiroshima, her story carries an extraordinary urgency for future generations. At a time of renewed global tensions and nuclear uncertainty, her message is both timeless and essential: “We must not hate people; we must hate war. Memory should not lead to hatred, but to hope.” Join us for this meaningful opportunity to hear from a remarkable voice in history and reflect on the power of compassion, forgiveness, and our collective pursuit of peace.
