Orange Shirt Day

September 30th is known as a Day of Truth and Reconiciliation recognizing the traumatic experiences of indigenous children in residential schools in Canada, the US, New Zealand, and Australia. Indigenous children were forcibly removed from their families and placed in Church-run, and government-sanctioned, boarding schools where rampant abuse and violence took place as a settler colonial strategy of cultural genocide. We are encouraging everyone in the Goucher community to wear orange on September 30th, to visit our table in Mary Fisher, and the Goucher library, to learn more about this dark time in history, as well as purchase orange t-shirts and other items as we raise money for the American Indian College Fund.
