Cooking with Rare and Mythical Beasts

Did you know that eating dragon broth could keep you young? Or that leeks could help your rheumatism? Or that unicorn horns, while notoriously difficult to catch, could counteract poisons? Medieval people attributed layers of symbolic meaning to everything in the natural world. Animals, as well as fruits, herbs, spices, and vegetables, were believed to affect health and emotions when consumed. The dishes we recreate give us a window into not only what medieval people ate but how they understood their world. Food remains one of the touchstones of the human experience; this tasting event will allow students to experience history in active and delicious ways.
