SUMMARY:De-Stress Power Hour
LOCATION:The Commons on the Green\, 900 16th St S\, Birmingham\, AL 35205\,
  USA
DESCRIPTION:Trainees in graduate school and those doing postdoctoral work a
re subject to stressors that are not always within their control. Uncertai
nty about future employment and how others respond to their work and decis
ions are just two examples among many. This uncertainty can contribute to
anxiety\, making it difficult to determine what to do\, what to say\, or t
o whom to turn to for support.\n\nIn this session\, participants will enga
ge in a reflective process to distinguish which aspects of a stressful sit
uation are within their control\, partly within their control\, and outsid
e of their control. They will then explore strategies for managing uncerta
inty and coping with aspects they cannot change.\n\n**Lunch provided on a
first-come\, first-served basis**\n\nDe-Stress Power Hour creates space fo
r you to de-stress in a safe environment\, talk to other trainees about yo
ur experiences\, and learn skills that you can take back into your persona
l and academic life to take control of your situation. This workshop is le
d by Student Clinicians\, in collaboration with the UAB Master of Arts in
Counseling program and the UAB Medicine Office of Wellness.\n\nTrainees fr
om all programs and departments are welcome – no faculty\, staff\, or ad
ministrators allowed. This is a safe space for you to connect with other t
rainees\, spend an hour to invest in your wellness\, and skill-build aroun
d the monthly topic.\n\nFor any questions or concerns\, please reach out t
 o Dr. Laurence Boitet (Lmblac@uab.edu).
