SUMMARY:NCEED School of Thought Scholar Series
LOCATION:Murphy Fine Arts Center\, 2201 Argonne Dr\, Baltimore\, MD 21218\,
  USA
DESCRIPTION:Join Morgan State University's National Center for the Eliminat
ion of Educational Disparities (NCEED) for a special School of Thought scr
eening of Stolen School\, a documentary examining the lasting impact of th
e 1967 closing of Foster School\, the all-Black neighborhood school in Eva
nston\, Illinois’ historically Black 5th Ward. Dr. Shannon Paige Clark\,
Assistant Professor of Organizational Leadership at the University of Mar
yland Eastern Shore\, served as an executive producer of the documentary.\
n\nThrough the voices of former students\, educators\, residents\, and com
munity leaders\, Stolen School explores what was lost in the pursuit of sc
hool desegregation and chronicles a community’s decades-long effort to r
eclaim what disappeared. The film offers a powerful opportunity to conside
r how decisions made in the name of educational progress can produce compl
ex and lasting consequences for students\, families\, schools\, and commun
ities.\n\nFollowing the screening\, Dr. Clark will join thought leaders fr
om the Baltimore community for a panel discussion examining what the story
of Foster School can teach us about the intended and unintended consequen
ces of school desegregation\, evolving efforts toward educational equity\,
and the ways in which the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement continues t
o shape American education.\n\nViewing Stolen School invites critical refl
ection on the historical roots and contemporary consequences of school clo
sures and encourages us to consider whose voices\, histories\, and communi
ties are centered—or overlooked—when decisions about education are mad
 e.
